Inspection and Testing

It is becoming more and more of a requirement of establishments such as Estate Agents and Insurance Companies that electrical installations are regularly tested for safety and compliance with current requirements. Listed below are general details of the testing services that Goodsons are able to provide.

| Electrical Installation Certificate | Periodic Inspection Report | Portable Appliance Testing

Electrical Installation Certification

When an installation is carried out by an Electrical Contractor, it is a requirement that an Electrical Installation Certificate is provided upon completion of the works.

The Certificates issued can be one of three different forms dependant on the size and type of installation works carried out.

The Electrical Installation Certificate is issued when an installation comprising of more than 12 circuits is carried out. The Domestic Installation Certificate is issued for smaller installations of less than 12 circuits. The third type is the Minor Works Certificate which is issued for works that have not involved the installation of a completely new circuit but where an existing circuit has been modified to include a new item of equipment such as an extra light or socket.

Periodic Inspection Report

This type of report should not be confused with the above listed certificates. A Periodic Inspection Report is issued when a person has requested that an installation be tested and inspected and a report on it's condition obtained. A list of any defects and recommendations for remedial works will also be provided.

This document would also be used if the installation had not been carried out by the contractor undertaking the inspection.

The extent of the installation to be tested is usually agreed with the client before the inspection is carried out. In any case, the Report will include a schedule of circuits and a schedule of test results for the circuits inspected.

Portable Appliance Testing

To comply with the Electricity at Work Act 1989, all employers are required to have all items of portable equipment tested for safety in service.  An inspection sheet for each appliance and a schedule of appliances should be obtained from the inspecting engineers and kept at the place of work where it could be inspected by bodies such as the HSE.

The requirement is that the appliances be tested annually and that any new appliances are added to the schedule and items taken out of service similarly removed.

Goodsons Electrical are able to carry out all of the testing mentioned above at very competitive rates.
