Fire Alarms

Fire alarms are an important part of the electrical contracting industry. They are, after all, designed to give warning of a possible life threatening situation caused by smoke and fire.

The sections below show differing types of fire alarm systems which Goodsons Electrical can provide and install.

Domestic | Multi-zone| Addressable

Domestic Systems to BS 5839 Part 6

All newly built properties are now required to have smoke alarms fitted as standard.
The minimum requirement is for the installation of mains operated smoke alarms to Hallways and Landings and other locations where smoke could endanger life.
Further to these requirements, each alarm point must have an integral standby supply and should linked together in such a way so as to sound the alarm at all points within the premises.
Several types and grades of systems are available dependant on the use of the premises including installation of heat detectors in those areas where smoke detectors may give rise to excessive false alarms.

For further details, please contact Goodsons Ltd.

Multi-zone systems to BS 5839 Part 1

Generally used in Commercial and Industrial applications, these systems are available in single zone through to panels designed specifically for the premises to be protected.
The fire alarm control panels have integral standby supply by way of batteries to ensure continued protection during loss of supply. The premises are divided into separate zones and visual indication on the panel allows the location of the alarm to be determined.
All cabling is also constantly monitored by the panel for faults thus ensuring that the whole system will operate when triggered.

We are able to design and install this type of system to meet your requirements.

Addressable systems to BS 5839 Part 1

Addressable systems are utilised in buildings and complexes such as Hospitals and Schools where a great number of detectors, call points and sounders are to be installed.

An advantage of this system is that only one cable needs to be installed to encompass the whole of the system. The control panel will then be programmed by the installing engineer and will be capable of detecting the exact location of the actuated alarm.

The above sections are only a very cursory look at fire alarm systems and we would be very pleased to provide further information if required.
